For this magical new home the client and architect had a vision of a building formed from sustainable materials: rammed earth, engineered timber and above all, locally sourced green oak, harvested from within sight of the final project.
Xylotek asked us to take on the design of the oak and glulam connections. Shrinkage and acidity are the two great challenges when working with green oak. To overcome these we used traditional connection formed wherever possible, supplemented with Rothoblaas’ recently introduced stainless steel fully-threaded screws.
We can hardly wait to see the finished project. In the meantime though the architect’s visualisation is available here and video construction updates here.
