Benenden School Centenary Hall timber roof

This Wood Award winning project is a curved roof formed by reciprocally supported members conceived by Holloway Studio. The project engineer had the member design; but to deliver it our client needed a connection design that could cope with the forces and the geometry at every point in the roof.

Tamarind Engineering developed a simple dowelled connection concept that could be tuned to suit the forces in each area and could cope with the varying geometry. The axial forces were so high in some locations that we had to come up with a novel method of carrying compression forces through the supporting members.

To realise innovative designs, you need to involve an engineer at the cutting edge of timber technology.
